![]() Kohei Nawa: Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art Exhibition Dates: Dec 2009 - May 2010 Opening Hours: Mon-Fri 10am-5pm; Sat & Sun 9am-5pm; from 12pm Anzac Day; closed Christmas Day & Good Friday Venue: Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art The Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art is an international festival of contemporary art which brings together every three years works by artists from many different countries of the region with a view to enhanced intellectual and artistic exchange. It includes a major international conference, catalogue and associated programmes. Co-curatorship between Australian and international curators are central to the project, with up to five curatorial teams working towards the selection of works by around 70 artists. The curatorial process involves four regionally-based curatorial teams (East Asia, South East Asia, South Asia and the Pacific), whilst a fifth team, Crossing Borders, focuses on works by ‘globally-mobile’ artists, interdisciplinary works, and works created through collaborations. Each team includes Australian and international curators, who work creatively towards the final selection of artists and artworks. Australian curators travel to the region to meet with international curators, artists, writers and scholars. Additionally, a number of key international curators are appointed to the Crossing Borders curatorial team. The Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art was initiated by the Queensland Art Gallery in 1993 as the first series of art exhibitions in the world to focus on the contemporary art of the Asia Pacific region.
